Testimonial

We are so very fortunate to have such amazing patients at our practice. Here is a sweet testimonial that was done just last week and we wanted to share it with all of you. .

We have been treated before but the way Dr. Valentine does his chiropractic techniques... He said that if we do only 1 time a week, "He could not help us". We needed (the) extensive program for about 1-2 months then maintenance of 1 time a week. We do (that) because he is programmed and enjoys helping people havea better and more healthy life. After two treatments we see a difference.

Lice- The Newest Superbug

It is no surprise to us to hear that lice has become the newest superbug that is affecting our children today. With school starting, this may be the article you need to pay attention to if you have school age children.

What makes it a superbug? It means that conventional methods are no longer working to treat the issue, and it has mutated their defense and genetic make up to survive whatever you are throwing at it.

How did it become a superbug? There are many theories to this one. But, the one we can most relate to would be the overuse of antibiotics. From finding it in our food, to having them overly prescribed for minor issues... these have created a little bit of an issue.

So, what's the good news? The best news is now the homeopathic methods are working better than ever. They are actually able to do the job, and the medicine you can find in the local pharmacy is failing. Going back to nature and using essential oils and natural infusions are making the biggest difference with no harmful side effects to your children.

Step into Health recently released a great article of the different methods you can use to help defeat this superbug if you happen to get exposed to them.

Back to School

It is that time of year again when children are getting ready or already have gone back to school. I remember when school started in September, and now it is year round or on different tracks that make it often difficult for children to go back to their routine.

Did you know that it takes a month, a full 30 days for a child and their parents to get back into the swing of an academic routine? A month! So in September, most children who have already started school will finally be back into the swing of things, and most parents will feel they have control of the schedule once again.

Below I have attached a link to a great article. One that is found on the ICPA4Kids website, and has great information regarding children and those who may have some difficulties with change. It has great tips of how a parent or teacher can help a student who may have learning difficulties.

Enjoy!

Backpacks and Back to School

This is an issue we have spoken about a lot, especially for children who have back pain from overly heavy backpacks.

Rather than trying to re-invent the wheel, here is a great article regarding backpacks and how it can cause a child to have issues.

http://www.spine-health.com/wellness/ergonomics/backpacks-and-back-pain-children

If you have questions about if your child's backpack is too heavy, or if they are wearing it properly, please do not hesitate to bring the backpack in with your child. A good rule of thumb is to try to keep the weight of the backpack 15% or less of the child's weight.

In a large sauce pan warm oil, anchovy paste, (optional)  and garlic, ( just till you begin to smell the garlic), then  add oregano basil Montreal steak seasoning stir and slowly add red wine. This is a great time if you like mushrooms to add mushrooms as well. Cover and let cook slowly for five minutes on low to medium heat do not burn the garlic. Now add the two cans of diced tomatoes and let warm but don't let it come to a bubble. Once you start to see sauce start to steam Parmesan cheese in large chunks and drop into sauce cover and let cook for 15 minutes on medium low heat with a lid. Once the sauce is finished cook your pasta put in colander  had two bowls not too high and cover with sauce almost like a soup make sure everyone gets a nice chunk of the cheese it's like fondue. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and a little crushed red pepper salt and pepper to taste and top off with fresh basil ribbons. Bon appétit!!

Using 1 or 2 pounds of your favorite pasta cooked Al Dante (not over cooked) follow the directions on the pasta package. (Typically we like the normal spaghetti noodles.)

The Big Three Stresses

The Big Three Stresses
APRIL 30, 2014

We live in a world where stress comes at us from all directions. Dr. Jason Gordon, a back specialist with a long-standing practice around the corner from New York City’s Carnegie Hall, shares his take on three types of stress and the havoc they can wreak.
“There are three types of stress — physical, chemical and emotional or psychological. Physical stress is caused by an action — slips and falls, sports injuries, going up and down stairs, sitting all day at a desk, sleeping on a lousy mattress, things of that nature. Chemical stress can be caused by polluted air, preservatives in food, fluorescent lights, smoking, caffeine, alcohol, drugs, the list is long. Then there’s emotional stress, which I put at the top because it causes additional physical stress and can even create psychosomatic illness.”

What happens when stress gets us off balance?
“Imagine a bicycle wheel. If one spoke breaks the wheel starts to wobble. Now you’re putting stress and strain on the other spokes. Eventually, another spoke breaks and you begin to spin out of control. If you look at your life as a wheel and think of physical, chemical and emotional stress as spokes, then you can see if any of these snap due to overload, then your life gets out of balance and you start to break down.”

Is stress control even possible?
“Absolutely. I teach my patients how to control their stress by identifying its source, then taking preventative measures. With patience and practice, they regain their natural alignment — both physically and metaphysically. Witnessing the transformation is like watching onion layers peeling off — you start to see that individual the way they’re meant to be. They shed their pain. They’re eating better. They’re exercising. And they go from being unhappy and pessimistic to upbeat and optimistic. It’s pretty amazing.”

The Sandwich Spread That Make Mayo Cry!!

THIS SANDWICH SPREAD MAKE’S MAYO CRY!!

(But you and any kind of sandwich you make will love it!!)

2 Medium Onions, roughly chopped

2 large jalapenos, diced (optional)

3 t. garlic salt

1 ½ cup extra virgin olive oil

2 T. dried oregano

2T. dried basil

1T. coriander seed, toasted & crushed (optional)

Combine chopped onion, diced jalapenos, garlic salt, oregano, and basil and coriander seed in a large bowl.  Pour olive oil over all ingredients and fold together with a spatula, scrapping all ingredients from the bottom till completely blended. Put all mixture into a glass or plastic container with a tight seal refrigerator for at least 8 hours.   This spread is amazing on all types for sandwiches that you would have added mayo, and a much safer alternative when taking food on picnics.

Some suggestions: 1 large, whole wheat French bread loaf, add salami, capicola, pancetta, (also good with sliced chicken or turkey,) provolone cheese, & arugula. Cut into sandwich size slices and wrap in Ziploc bags. Bring enough sandwich spread for each slice in a tight Tupperware container. When serving sandwiches spoon spread on bread and enjoy.

Sorry, not sorry!

There is a tiny part of us who feel the need to apologize for flooding your Facebook news feed this morning, and yet there is a huge part of us that are not sorry for doing it.

Yesterday, SB 277 went before the California Health Committee. With 400 people standing and opposing the Bill, and only 50+ who were for it, the voice of the people obviously didn't matter. The vote still went on the side of pushing SB 277 forward to be heard at the Education Committee next week.

Why are we so against SB 277? We believe the statement, "If there is a risk, there should be a choice!"

We know you are probably hitting sensory overload on this issue, but we ask that if you are passionate about keeping your right to choose medical decisions for your child, you contact those on the California Educational Committee and let them know where you stand.

Here is a link to a summary of the public hearing from the Sacramento Bee.
